    Spring Wildflower Pilgrimage: Come to Gatlinburg to attend the Great Smoky Mountain Associations 66th Annual Wildflower Pilgrimage. Everyone from the most serious botanists to the weekend gardeners can experience unprecedented access to some of the nations leading botanical experts as well as Appalachian wildlife authorities with more than 150 programs including instructional walks and guided hiking tours. Programs take place in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park along with educational classroom sessions and evening entertainment in the W.L. Mills Conference Center in downtown Gatlinburg.

    New Year’s Eve Ball Drop and Fireworks Show: Come to Gatlinburg to welcome the arrival of 2016 in unique style at the 28th Annual New Year’s Eve Ball Drop and Fireworks Show around the intersection of Parkway and Historic Nature Trail at the base of the Space Needle late Thursday night, December 31. Fireworks will blast off the rooftop of the 400-foot tall Space Needle at the stroke of midnight to special music choreographed for the fireworks show produced by Pyro-Shows of LaFollette, Tennessee. The Space Needle has added rhythmic LED lights to the tower, making for a spectacular display!

    These local artisans of the Smokies will offer gorgeous quilts, old-fashioned straw brooms with hand carved handles, woven baskets, hand-dipped scented candles, ceramic pitchers, pottery, dulcimers, stuffed bears, leather vests, handmade jewelry unlike anything you’ll find in the malls back home. Painters capture scenes of landscapes and mountain life.

    The Gatlinburg Arts and Crafts Community makes its home in Gatlinburg Tennessee and is the nation’s largest organization of independent artisans. The artisans have studios and stores located around downtown Gatlinburg as well as on the 8-mile Arts and Crafts Loop along Route 321, Buckhorn Road and Glades Road.

    Winter Magic Kickoff & Chili Cookoff The 26th Annual Winter Magic Kickoff & Chili Cookoff takes place in downtown Gatlinburg along the Parkway from 5-8 pm. The Winter Magic Kickoff features the ceremonial lighting of more than 3 million lights that make Gatlinburg a winter wonderland. You will find lighted animated displays throughout Gatlinburg as well as the Great Smoky Arts and Crafts Community, some of which are as much as 40 feet tall.

    Of course who can forget all the great food! Vote for your favorite chili under the People’s Choice Award category. A panel of judges will cast their votes for other awards including: Best Presentation, Best Chili Apron, and Best Chili. There will also be a hot-chili eating contest during the event where contestants will consume chili with increasing levels of heat as the competition progresses. Chili’s served will vary from mild and delightful to wild and adventitious, to the ludicrous!

    Gatlinburg Craftsmen’s Fair As nature transforms the Great Smoky Mountains from lush green to a majestic patchwork quilt of colors it is also time for one of the southeast’s most popular events, the 40th Annual Gatlinburg Craftsmen’s Fair at which time the Gatlinburg Convention Center blossoms into a multi-level mecca of the top craft people from all across the United States.

    The will be Live Country & Bluegrass entertainment as well as more than 2000 booths with artk available for viewing and sale, but there are also demonstrations of special talents and skills. The Gatlinburg Craftsmen’s Fair is recognized as one of the top 20 events in the Southern U.S. by the Southeast Tourism Society and is open 10-6 Daily (10-5 on Sundays). Musical shows are at 12, 2 and 4pm daily, 12 and 2 on Sundays.

The celebration takes place in downtown Gatlinburg to mark our nation’s ”Independence Day” with a magnificent fireworks show which is visible from the streets of downtown Gatlinburg and the surrounding mountains.

    Gatlinburg River Raft Regatta: Gatlinburg’s popular River Raft Regatta takes place at noon on July 4th, on the Little Pigeon River in Downtown Gatlinburg and will feature the always-competitive River Raft Regatta, the unmanned kind.

    Anything floatable can be entered starting at 10 am at the Christ in the Smokies bridge on River Road and will end at Ripley’s Aquarium of the Smokies. Awards will go to the top 3 in each categorof terh 2 catagories: Trash (not hand-made) and Treasure (hand-made). There will also be a "Judges Choice" award to the most creative "raft." Awards will be also be given to the oldest and the youngest participants. Registration begins at 10am and the race will start at noon.

    First Independence Day Parade in the Nation: The 40th annual first Independence Day Parade in the Nation honors Military Veterans and other US Military Heroes and starts at the stroke of midnight to the cheers of close to 100,000 spectators who will line the Gatlinburg City streets for this award winning parade.

    Free Gatlinburg Parkway Trolley: A great way to explore the parkway and not have to worry about parking is to take the Gatlinburg Trolley which are all are handicap accessible, some of which are free for the summer. The free specially painted open-air shuttles run up and down the line from 10am to 10pm daily June 13 through August 15. Extra stops have been added along the special route along Parkway to bring the number of stops to 40.

    Other than the free trolleys, you can take the Gatlinburg Trolleys all day long for just $2 a day with unlimited access to the Red, Blue, Purple, Yellow and Green Trolley routes. The $2 Pass is sold at City Welcome Centers as well as at City Hall and the Mass Transit Center, plus numerous Gatlinburg lodging facilities. http://www.gatlinburgtrolley.org

Listen to music by local favorites such as Boogertown Gap or watch Artisans demonstrate a craft or two or 2 while you are shopping for farm fresh produce.

    As the growing season progresses you will find an array of fresh produce that may include blueberries, apples, okra, tomatoes, and the like. Other vendors who participate at the Gatlinburg Farmers Market sell jams, jellies, honey and natural health and wellness products.
