Open and Closed Roads in Great Smoky Mountains National Park

• Balsam Mountain Road NC is CLOSED For Winter and will open May 8th 2010.
   
• Cades Cove TN (Cades Cove Loop Road) is closed to all cars, hikers and bikes for repaving. It is expected to reopen in late May 2010.
  
  There will be no access to any of the roads in Cades Cove Valley and the Cades Cove Campgrounds amphitheater will also be closed. The Cades Cove Campground, Picnic Area, Horse Stable and Camp Store will remain OPEN on their normal schedule during construction. Roads will all reopen around May 21st 2010.
   
• Cades Cove TN (Forge Creek Road) is CLOSED due to construction.
   
• Cades Cove TN (Hyatt Lane) is CLOSED due to construction.
   
• Cades Cove TN (Parson Branch Road) is CLOSED due to construction.
   
• Cades Cove TN (Primitive Babist Church Road) is CLOSED due to construction.
   
• Cades Cove TN (Rich Mountain Road) is CLOSED due to construction.

• Clingmans Dome Road NC is CLOSED to all vehicles, hikers, bikers and skiers for repaving and will open sometime in May 2010.
   
• Cherokee Orchard Road TN is OPEN to the Noah Bud Ogle Cabin..
   
• Cosby Entrance Road TN is OPEN.
   
• Elkmont Campground Entrance Road TN is OPEN.
   
• Fontana Dam Access Road to the AT NC is OPEN.
   
• Foothills Parkway East TN (321 - Cosby TN - I-40) is OPEN.
   
• Foothills Parkway West TN (321 - Walland TN) is OPEN.
   
• Foothills Parkway Spur TN (Gatlinburg to Pigeon Forge) is OPEN.
   
• Gatlinburg Bypass TN (Newfound Gap Road to the Spur) is OPEN.

• Heintooga Ridge Road NC is CLOSED For Winter and will open May 8th 2010.

• Newfound Gap Road/US 441 (Cherokee NC - Gatlinburg TN) is OPEN.
   
• Old State Road 284 NC (Big Creek - Cataloochee) is CLOSED Due to Snow and Ice.
   
• Roaring Fork Motor Nature Trail TN is CLOSED to vehicles, hikers and bikes during construction for repaving. Roaring Fork Motor Nature Trail will reopen May 2010
   
• Roundbottom/Straight Fork NC is now CLOSED For Winter. Opens March 13th 2010.
   
• Sinks Parking Area - Little River Road TN is Closed for Construction. Opens May 2010.
   
• Toms Branch Road NC is OPEN.
   
• Tremont Road TN is OPEN.
   
• Wears Gap Road TN is OPEN.
   

Road Construction in the Smoky Mountains National Park

• Newfound Gap Road (US 441) will have an ongoing paving starting March 16th and expected to be done by September 1st 2010 on the North Carolina side from the Collins Creek Picnic area to the National Park Boundary at Cherokee NC. Expect periodic lane changes
   

Blue Ridge Parkway Road Conditions and Construction

• Mile marker 393.6 to 405.5 in North Carolina CLOSED due to high landslides risk until further notice.
   
• Mile marker 0 to 356 in Virginia to North Carolina. Guardrail replacements will cause traffic to be reduced to 1 lane as work is done through 2010.
   

I-40 Road Construction / Traffic Updates

• Huge landslide closes I-40 near the North Carolina Border with Tennessee until April or May 2010.
